SISTER COMMUNITIES

There are many projects around the country who have inspired us and who we have shared ideas and actions with to make a difference in our communities.  We are grateful for the advice and kindness they have given our project.  Please find out about them below.

HUNDON ALLOTMENTS AND TENANT'S ASSOCIATION

Hundon Allotment Tenants’ Association (HATA) took over the management of the 6.75 acre Allotment Field in the centre of the village in 2021 and have since actively managed it for the benefit of the community and wildlife.  Hundon & Risby are working together on an exciting Nature Recovery Network Strategy for our villages.

WILDLIFE FRIENDLY VILLAGE NIB

Wildlife Friendly Villages NIB has taken up the challenge of trying to increase biodiversity within our villages as part of the growing Wildlife Friendly Communities Initiative. See our inspiration links below. We believe that a single action can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world.

BREDFIELD WILDLIFE FRIENDLY VILLAGE

Bredfield: Wildlife Friendly Village is a community project. Our vision is that Bredfield’s green spaces and gardens will be places where wildlife thrives. We encourage connecting with nature, promote wildlife-friendly practices, and support learning about wildlife. We will join with other villages and organisations to share practices and help create a network of wildlife-friendly havens.

FELIXSTOWE COMMUNITY NATURE RESERVE

Felixstowe’s Community Nature Reserve aims to stop the decline of wildlife populations in the town. They want to achieve this goal by encouraging everyone who has a garden, allotment or window box to set aside some space which is friendly to wildlife.

ACTON NATURE RESERVE

This nature reserve is a gem in the heart of Suffolk.  It is an example of what can be achieved on disused allotment land.  There is a mosaic of habitats for reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects and mammals beautifully created by residents of Acton.
